How does this YouTube transcript extractor work?

When you paste a video URL, our system parses the 11-character video ID and queries YouTube’s public timed-text caption endpoints. It converts the XML/JSON caption stream into clean, readable text segments synchronized with exact timestamps.

Can I extract transcripts from YouTube Shorts and live streams?

Yes. You can paste any standard video link, Shorts link (youtube.com/shorts/...), or completed live stream recording. If closed captions exist for the video, the tool will extract the complete transcript.

Should I download my transcript as TXT or SRT?

Choose TXT if you want continuous plain text for reading, taking study notes, writing articles, or summarizing with AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude. Choose SRT (SubRip) if you need synchronized timecodes to import into video editors like Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or CapCut.

Why does a video show "No transcript available"?

Transcripts cannot be retrieved if the video creator turned off closed captions, if the video has no spoken dialogue (such as music or ambient sound), or if the video was uploaded within the last few minutes and YouTube has not finished processing speech recognition.

Does UTubeToolkit store or log the transcripts I extract?

No. All extractions are processed on-demand in real time. We do not store transcripts, log searched video IDs, or require user registration.

Can I extract transcripts from private or unlisted YouTube videos?

Transcripts can be extracted from unlisted videos if you have the direct link. However, private videos cannot be accessed because they are restricted by YouTube account permissions.
